Project TAKECare

Project TAKEcare, an Athens community service project, began its supply drive on July 7 as a way to assist the homeless and others in need.

County employees participating in the Management Skills Training class hosted by Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s (ACCUG) Organizational Development Department created the service project. Chadsity Young, project manager for Project TAKEcare, explained that the supply drive was an idea each member of the class agreed would benefit the community.

“It was an idea from our management training class as a community service project, that we were asked to do during our 12 week course,” Young said. “To find a project that we all could agree on in contributing to the community.”

Members of the Athens community are encouraged to participate in the supply drive and bring a variety of travel sized toiletries. The ACCUG is specifically asking for toothbrushes, toothpaste, moist towelettes, sealable storage bags, deodorant, hand sanitizer, bar soaps, shampoo, tissue packets, Band-Aids, and and other hygienic products. Young believes that the supply drive will show that Athens Clarke County employees and community members care about the community.

“It’s a small gesture to show that we care about our community and giving the small token that’ll empower the individuals receiving the little kits to thrive,” Young said.

Supply drive donations are being taken in the front lobbies of the ACC Police Department, the Humane Resources Department and the Landscape/Facilities Management office. The donations will be packaged and made into kits for those in need. Some of the donation kits will be given to The ARCH Village, a homeless shelter in Athens.

The Project TAKEcare supply drive will run until August 7. County employees and the police department will assemble the hygiene kits on August 9.
