An Athens nonprofit is holding a benefit to support homeless veterans.
Artist2Artist presents “CBGBs-Athens,” the fundraiser is in honor of Athens-area homeless veterans. A diverse lineup is performing for the concert, as the iconic club celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Lisa Mende is co-founder of Artist2Artist, she says the funds raised will supplement housing vouchers to be used for items like food, furniture, transportation to job interviews, heat and electricity.
“All the things that we take for granted none of these veterans have,” according to Mende. “They’ve been homeless and on the street and so the vouchers help them get homes, we want to use the funds from Artist2Artist for CBGBs Athens to go to helping them improve the quality of their home life so they can some of the amenities that we take for granted.”
The event is Saturday, August 5th from 6 to 11:45 pm at the Office Lounge in the Homewood Hills Shopping Center.
