Nearly 100 Stopped in Oconee County Sheriff's Office Patrol
Nearly 100 people were stopped in Oconee County Friday morning, in the effort to crack down on inattentive motorists. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a distracted driving concentrated patrol this morning in the Butlers Crossing and Epps Bridge areas. According the department’s Facebook page, between 9 am and noon Friday, 96 stops were made and 59 tickets were written, with 30 of those specifically for distracted driving, or texting. An additional 38 drivers were issued warnings.
According to the Oconee County Probate Court, tickets for distracted driving cost $131. One driver was arrested due to a warrant. The office had issued a warning the evening before on its page which urged drivers not to use cell phones or other electronic devices to text, or check email while driving.
