Groundbreaking for Alice H. Richards Children's Garden at UGA
The University of Georgia holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the Alice H. Richards Children’s Garden Friday at the State Botanical Garden. About 200 people joined President Jere Morehead, Richard’s son Jim Richards, and Director Jenny Cruse-Sanders for the event.
“It will bring new audiences to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia,” Cruse-Sanders said. “We have a little over 215,000 visitors per year and we think this will add to, to introduce new children and families to the State Botanical Garden and to the programming we have here in Athens.”
The Richards family gave $1 million to initiate fundraising for the $5 million children’s garden. Which will cover two-and-a-half acres and will include a handicapped-accessible canopy walk in the trees, tree house, creature habitats, hands-on garden plots, an underground zone, edible landscapes, and a bog garden and pond.
