Skilled makers, novices and families are encouraged to visit Athens’ newest makerspace this week.
The Hatch provides shared studio space for makers using traditional materials and equipment as well as those with a focus on technology. Founder and Executive Director Erica Parson says The Hatch is holding its grand opening October 7th, but before that the facility is holding a ‘hackathon” to let members of the community tour the facility and see what it has to offer.
“So they can come and see the types of things that people do in the space and see the tools actually being used,” Parson said. “You don’t have to bring a project, we have stuff that you can do there, but I always encourage people to come out to one of those, it’s also free. It’s just a great way to meet other makers and see what we’re trying to do there in a non-pressured environment.”
The Hackathon is October 6th from 5 to 9 pm. The Hatch is located in the Chase Park Warehouses on Tracy Street.
