North Oconee High School Placed on Lockdown, No Charges or Criminal Complaints

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reports North Oconee High School was placed on lockdown today due to an inappropriate message found written on a bathroom wall. According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, there was no reason to believe there was any actual threat to the school. No criminal charges or juvenile complaints have been made. The post contained a statement released by Principal Phillip Brown:

Dear North Oconee High School Parents,

I want to make you aware that our school was on a lockdown earlier today due to an inappropriate message found in a student restroom. Administrators worked quickly with local law enforcement to investigate the message, and we are continuing to review this administratively.

While on lockdown, there was no exterior movement, but classes were held as usual. Please know that students and adults were safe during this entire process. We take any and all situations such as this with the utmost seriousness, and appreciate the responsiveness of local law enforcement. Our NOHS faculty and staff were extremely professional in this situation as well.

We are committed to maintaining a safe learning environment, and appreciate the strong support of our community in this endeavor. Thank you so much for your commitment to NOHS.

Sincerely,

Philip Brown, Ph.D.

Principal
