ACCPD Dispatcher Fired after DUI Arrest

A dispatcher with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department has been terminated. According to a media release, police arrived on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident. The investigation found the driver of the at-fault vehicle, Laura Ricketts ran a traffic signal, striking one vehicle, and continued striking another vehicle.

When questioned by officers, Ricketts, who was sitting in the passenger side of the car, was unable to tell them what happened. Officers said she was unsteady on her feet and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from her. Drivers of the other vehicles involved said Ricketts was the only person in the vehicle and was the driver. She was arrested on the scene and taken to Clarke County Jail.

Ricketts was 9-1-1 dispatcher and had been with the department since October 2016.
