Winter Storm Heading to Deep South

National Weather Service

Forecasters are warning that a winter storm could soon bring snow and a wintry mix of precipitation to a large section of the Deep South. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a special weather statement for parts of North and Central Georgia, which calls for a mix of rain and snow for the area late tonight and into Friday night.

Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, and Oglethorpe counties are included in the statement. While forecasters say some accumulation is possible, they expect it to only affect grassy areas and elevated surfaces. Most of the precipitation will be gone by Saturday, but there is a possibility of black ice on area roadways, particularly on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

Forecasters say there remains “significant uncertainty" Thursday about the snowfall amounts and which parts of Georgia will see it.
