Athens Tech Drop-off Recycling Site Closing Due to Illegal Dumping

The Athens Tech Recycling drop-off site located at US Hwy 29 North at Calhoun Drive, is closing at the end of this month due to illegal dumping. A release from the Athens-Clarke County Public Information Office states the Recycling Division will close the site on January 31 due chronic illegal dumping. The recycling drop-off sites are for recyclable materials only, with accepted items marked on the containers. The release states that leaving mattresses, furniture, TVs appliances, and other large items is considered illegal dumping.

The nearest drop-off sites close to the closing location are the ACC Recycling Facility at 699 Hancock Industrial Way, which is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 4 pm; and the ACC Fire Station #9 at 1650 Danielsville Road which is open around the clock.

There will be eight sites remaining after the Athens Tech closure and the recent closure of the site at Newton Bridge road on December 8, 2017. That location at Power partners closed due to changes to the property.
