Obamacare Deadline Extension for BlueCross Enrollees

While the official deadline to sign up for Obamacare for most states, was December 15th 2017, that deadline was pushed back to December 31st for Georgians due to Hurricane Irma. Now there’s another extension for Peach State residents enrolled in the marketplace through Blue Cross Blue Shield, after the company pulled out of the marketplace. Health Plan Navigator Harold Weber explains.

“If you were in a county like Clarke or Oconee, even though you had a chance to sign up for Ambetter during open enrollment, when your carrier pulls out then you have the right to an open enrollment period,” according to Weber. “It’s called a Special Enrollment Period, so all those people who had Blue Cross Blue Shield have an extra 60 days to enroll.”

Weber is also Outreach Coordinator at Athens Neighborhood Health Center. He can be reached at 706-255-4292 for questions about coverage.
