Qualifying is over for the May 22 primary election. Despite several would-be candidates announcing their intention to run for Mayor, only three candidates actually qualified. They are Commissioner Kelly Girtz, former Commissioner Harry Sims, and businessman Richie Knight.
In the District 1 County Commission race, Patrick Davenport is taking on incumbent Sharyn Dickerson. In District 2, Mariah parker is taking on Taylor Pass.
In District 3, incumbent Melissa Link is facing challenger Tony Eubanks.
District 5 candidates are incumbent Jared Bailey, along with Danielle Benson and Athens for Everyone Founder Tim Denson.
The District 7 candidates are Carl Blount, and attorneys Russell Edwards and Bill Overend. Incumbent Diane Bell did not seek reelection.
In District 9, Ovita Thornton is facing Tommy Valentine.
In the Board of Education races, Linda Davis is running in District 3.
District 5 has Kara Dyckman taking on Imani Scott-Blackwell.
In District 7, Lakeisha Gantt faces Carol Williams and Tawana Mattox is running in District 9.
