Athens mayoral candidate Richie Knight is urging local leaders to move the Economic Development Department. In a media release, the campaign states the department should merge with the Athens-Area Chamber of Commerce as part of an effort to enhance the capabilities of Athens-Clarke County’s economic development efforts.
Knight believes this move will make Athens more competitive.
He faces Clarke County Commissioner Kelly Girtz and former long-commissioner Harry Sims in the battle to become the next mayor.
Chalis Montgomery, a Democratic candidate for the 10th district says she will focus on community candidate forums ahead of the May 22nd primary.
A release from her campaign states that due to the last-minute addition of a third qualified candidate in the Democratic primary, the Montgomery Campaign believes it best to move forward with other scheduled community events-some of which conflict with previously scheduled debate dates.
Montgomery and fellow District 10 Democratic Candidate Richard Winfield had been scheduled to take part in a debate this Saturday.
Tabitha Johnson-Green is also running for that seat. The registered nurse qualified as a democrat on March 6th. Republicans running for the 10th include Republicans Joe Hunt, and Bradley Griffin. They are all trying to unseat incumbent Republican Representative Jody Hice.
