Mount Pleasant Baptist Church to Hold Candidate Forum/Meet & Greet

The first of two Candidate forums scheduled at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church takes place Monday, March 19th. The first forum will focus on the candidates running for mayor and Commission. Clarke County Board of Education member Linda Elder Davis, who is running unopposed, is one of the organizers.

“We are inviting of the candidates for races in Georgia who will be a part of the primary on May 22nd, or if you’re actually in a nonpartisan election for May 22nd to be present,” Davis said. “Because our slate of candidates is so large, we’ve had to split our forum, so on Monday the 19th we will seat a panel for the mayoral race and a panel for all the commission races. On April 16th we will then have a follow up panel for the remaining races.”

The forum begins at 6 pm with a meet and greet and the first panel of candidates will be seated at 6:30.

“I’m excited, I’ve heard from several candidates and I’ve heard from other people that people are coming. You don’t have to RSVP if you’re a candidate and you’re on the ballot already, just be there. You have an opportunity to put your literature out and also display your signs.”

Mount Pleasant Baptist is located at 1931 Old West Broad Street. The forum will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The event is coordinated by the Athens Community Agenda, along with sponsors including: Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, NAACP, AABHB, Concerned Clergy of Metro Athens.
