A UGA student was arrested yesterday for leaving a handgun unattended on campus.
Online Athens is reporting that Jasmine Aris Starnes allegedly left a loaded semiautomatic handgun at a bus stop on the UGA campus on March 3rd. She was arrested Tuesday after an Athens-Clarke County judge issued a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest. Starnes was booked into the Clarke County Jail on Tuesday afternoon, and was released after posting her $1,500 bond about an hour later.
According to the police report, the gun was found lying on top of pine straw in a planter at the Myers Quad bus stop on Sanford Drive. The weapon was found by a graduate student who had just left his lab in the Boyd Graduate Research Center. The gun’s magazine did have six rounds in it, though the chamber was empty.
21-year old Starnes is being charged with reckless conduct.
