A Colbert man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into a guardrail. According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, 40-year old Jason McElhannon was traveling on Collins Industrial Boulevard near Athena Drive when he lost control of his motorcycle while passing another vehicle on a double yellow line. ACCPD spokesperson Epifanio Rodriguez says only one vehicle was involved in that accident.
“As soon as he attempted to merge back into his lane, he lost control of the motorcycle and went off the roadway and struck a guardrail,” according to Rodriguez. “His injuries were very serious on the scene; he was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.”
Rodriguez says authorities are awaiting toxicology reports from the coroner’s office.
