Memorial Planned for UGA Professor Killed While Riding Bicycle

A memorial service is being held for the University of Georgia professor who was killed while riding her bicycle. The memorial for Dr. Karen Tinsley is scheduled for Monday, April 9th at 2 pm in the Chapel on North Campus.

A reception will follow at the Georgia Center’s Mahler Hall beginning at 4 pm.

Tinsley died Tuesday night after being struck by an F-150 truck while she was riding her bicycle on Astondale Road in Bishop. According the Georgia State Patrol, the truck was following too closely and to the bicycle and struck it from behind.

Tinsley was thrown from the bicycle. She was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional where she was pronounced deceased. She was a professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Tinsley had worked at UGA since 2004.

Charges are pending against the driver of the truck.
