Gubernatorial Candidate Stops in Athens on 'Deportation Bus' Tour

Michael Williams for Governor via AP

Georgia gubernatorial candidate Michael Williams will visit the Epps Bridge Road Cracker Barrel as part of his “deportation bus tour” through what he calls the state’s sanctuary cities.

Williams, a Republican member of the Georgia State Senate currently vying for Nathan Deal’s seat, will be arriving in Athens at 3 p.m. in a modified school bus that he hopes will “shine a light on the dangers of sanctuary cities and the overwhelming problem of illegal immigration.”

Sanctuary cities are cities that limit their cooperation with immigration law enforcement. In April, the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office announced it would no longer detain undocumented immigrants for Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation unless requests are issued with a judicial warrant or court order.

In a video for the bus tour, Williams said that his deportation plan to deputize police officers as ICE agents would “fill this bus with illegals to send them back to where they came from.” The video was removed by YouTube for violating its hate speech standards, but is still available via the candidate’s Facebook page.

“DANGER! MURDERERS, RAPISTS, KIDNAPPERS, CHILD MOLESTORS (sic), AND OTHER CRIMINALS ON BOARD,” reads the rear of the bus. “FOLLOW ME TO MEXICO.”

Michael Williams will arrive at the Cracker Barrel on Epps Bridge at 4 p.m. according to his website. He will also be stopping in Clarksville and Decatur today as part of his tour.
