St. Mary's Healthcare Receives Heart Association Award for Heart Attack Care

St. Mary's

For the second year in a row, Athens’s St. Mary’s healthcare has received the ‘Get With The Guidelines’ Resuscitation Gold Award from the American Heart Association.  Mark Ralston is Public Relations Manager with the facility. He says the program was developed with the goal of saving the lives of those who experience a heart attack while in the hospital.

“It’s an award that recognizes St. Mary’s for implementing evidence-based quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association," according to Ralston.

Guidelines include following protocols for patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective and timely resuscitation (CPR) and post-resuscitation care.

“Receiving the award, particularly for the second year in a row, demonstrates that we’re really committed to ongoing efforts to provide the best, most evidenced-based care possible for our patients, and that can help prevent more serious damage from the heart attack while they’re here in the hospital and enable them to have better outcomes. At least that’s the goal.”

According to the American Heart Association, more than 200,000 adults and children have an in-hospital cardiac arrest each year. Get With The Guidelines has touched the lives of more than 6 million patients since 2001. For more information, visit heart.org. St. Mary’s is an underwriter with WUGA.
