Former Presidential Hopeful Endorses Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate

A   Democrat Stacey Abrams secured an important endorsement on Thursday in her race for Governor from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Sanders, who ran for president in 2016 as a Democrat, took to Facebook to cite Abrams’ support of universal pre-K education, raising the minimum wage, and introducing automatic voter registration as factors in his endorsement.  Sanders joins other notable Democrats like Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kamala Harris of California in supporting Abrams’ campaign.

Sanders carried 28 percent of the vote in the Georgia Democratic Primaries in 2016; locally, Sanders picked up 49 percent of the vote in Clarke County during that primary cycle.
