Georgia Department of Transportation Heads into 2018 Summer Construction Season

GDOT

With Memorial Day in the rear view mirror, the unofficial start of summer has begun. For Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), summer road construction is gearing up across Georgia. Tuesday, the Department announced plans for an active 2018 summer construction season, with hundreds of construction and maintenance projects along interstates and state routes across Georgia.

These include Express Lanes, highway widenings, bridge replacements, interchange improvements and maintenance projects. A major widening and reconstruction project on US 129/State Route 11 in Hall and Jackson Counties is expected to be completed at the end of April 2020.

GDOT has launched a Summer 2018 Construction webpage to inform motorists about key summer construction activities. On a rotating basis, the page profiles major-impact statewide projects. Visit www.dot.ga.gov/BuildSmart/Projects/Pages/SummerConstruction.aspx.

The department is also reminding drivers that Georgia’s new Hands-Free Law goes into effect July 1. Motorists will no longer be able to hold cell phones while driving.
