Work Scheduled to Begin on Clayton Street Improvements June 18

The Mayor and Commission approved preliminary plans for the Clayton Street Improvements during the June 5 regular session. The plans set the curb lines and street widths, which will allow work to begin on the stormwater system, which must be installed largely underground before the streetscape is installed.

While the preliminary plans for the curb lines and stormwater system were approved, the Clayton Street Improvements project will solicit additional public input on the streetscape.

The approval also set the general schedule for the project:

Pre-Dig Phase (Stormwater) - June - Nov. 2018

Utility Relocations - August 2018 - April 2019

Stormwater System Installation - January 2019 - March 2020 (August 2019 - January 2020 break)

Streetscape Installation - April 2019 - August 2020 (November 2019 - April 2020 break)

The Pre-Dig phase will begin on Monday, June 18 when the ACC Transportation & Public Works Department crews start creating the areas for the stormwater system to be installed. No pipes will actually be put in at that time.

Crews will work one side of a block at a time (south side and north side) starting at N. Lumpkin Street and working block-by-block to Thomas Street. Work will only take place Monday - Thursday from 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Work will take place in a rolling work zone of up to approximately 200' at a time and require lane closures and parking space closures of 10-15 spaces at a time.

Detailed block-by-block/side of street maps and more information are available at www.accgov.com/clayton.
