Clarke Sheriff Elected National Sheriff’s Association’s Sergeant At Arms

Clarke County Sheriff Ira Edwards was elected Sergeant at Arms by the National Sheriff’s Association. The honor came during the group’s Summer Annual Executive Training in New Orleans, held June 15-19.

Edwards is only the second African-American to hold the position in the organization’s history. Chartered in 1940, the National Sheriffs' Association offers police training, police information, court security training, jail information and other law enforcement services to sheriffs, deputies, and others throughout the nation.

The organization represents over 3,000 American Sheriffs.
