Chief Freeman Announces Newest Member of ACCPD Command Staff

ACCPD

Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Scott Freeman hass announced the newest member of his command staff. Freeman has appointed Athens native William Hood to the position of Captain.

“Captain Hood has wide respect throughout the department and with his years of service, has developed leadership qualities which I am confident will allow him to effectively lead the Uniform Patrol Division,” according to Freeman.  “With his extensive law enforcement background and experience, in addition to Hood growing up here in the community, he has a unique perspective of the community policing needs that will allow for further expansion and development of our community policing philosophy.”

Captain Hood has over 28 years’ experience in law enforcement.

He began his law enforcement career in the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.  Hood grew up in Athens, attended Clarke Central High School and graduated from Cedar Shoals High School. Most recently, Hood was Lieutenant of Morning Watch West and has held a number of other positions in the ACCPD.

Hood is a military veteran, having served in the U.S.  Air Force.

Hood is proud of his local roots and looking forward to this new position. “I enjoy policing and I can’t imagine a better job. Being able to work in the community that I grew up in gives me great satisfaction.”
