Envision Athens Project Manager on Action Agenda, Community Input

Athenians can still have an opportunity to provide input on Envision Athens. Erin Barger is the recently-selected Project Manager for the community-wide, public-private Envision Athens Action Agenda. She says nearly 2,000 people submitted some 86-hundred comments and pieces of input since the beginning of the project.

“Combine those with the targeted analysis and community assessment, found the core reoccurring themes to arrive at 103 action items which is the Action Agenda for Envision Athens,” according to Barger. “Essentially, in one phrase, Envision Athens is a 20-year economic and community strategy for Athens-Clarke County.”

Before beginning her two-year stint, Barger also served on the 38-member Steering Committee. There are three categories to on the Action Plan. People, Prosperity and Place. There are 14 topics listed under those categories, they include: health and safety, education, economic development, and housing among others.

“It is truly an uplift capability and tool to really build up, celebrate, spotlight all the beauty of this community. I think it’s important to note that Envision Athens is truly unique in the fact that this movement is the result of grassroots activism combining with institutional capacity.”
