Authorities: Inmate Caught in Georgia After Being on the Run

Authorities say an inmate who walked away from a work detail last year has been taken into custody in Georgia.

WALB-TV reports agents found Donald Dewayne Davis attempting to hide inside a closet in a home belonging to some of his family Tuesday. Authorities say Douglas-Coffee Drug agents learned this week that Davis was possibly in the area and started surveilling the home.

A Coffee County Sheriff's Office news release says Davis had been working a detail at the Coffee County Courthouse when he disappeared with the help of an accomplice in December.

Authorities say Davis was found in North Carolina but escaped after being released on a technicality involving his extradition back to Georgia.

Davis was charged with escape and other offenses. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
