Rise for Climate Athens! Campaign Kicks Off in September

Athens for Everyone is joining a coalition of groups demanding action on climate change. According a media release, the organization, along with groups including the Georgia Climate Change Coalition, Environment Georgia, Bike Athens, local churches and other community leaders are calling on elected officials and area businesses to support what they refer to as a just and equitable transition to 100% renewable energy for all of Athens.

The Rise for Climate Athens! coalition will be gathering on Saturday, September 8 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the West Broad Farmers Market for a kickoff to an ongoing campaign.

Mayor-elect Kelly Girtz, and District 2 commissioner Mariah Parker are expected to attend. The event will also feature live music from local bands plus community speakers, as well as Athens food and craft vendors.

Rise for Climate Athens! is part of a global mobilization this September (riseforclimate.org) across five continents to demand bold action on climate.
