Labor Day Weekend Rides For Inebriated Drivers

To keep roadway fatalities down, AAA’s Tow to Go program hopes to provide free rides to drivers that probably shouldn’t be driving this Labor Day weekend.

2016 saw 433 roadway fatalities due to alcohol-related crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but the Tow to Go program has kept over 25,000 impaired drivers off the roads since 1998.

“We want Labor Day to be an enjoyable weekend for everyone,” said Amy Stracke, managing director of traffic safety advocacy for AAA – The Auto Club Group and executive director of the ACG Traffic Safety Foundation. “With greater numbers of drivers expected on the roadways, it’s crucial for motorists to make safe and responsible decisions when getting behind the wheel.”

Drivers in need of a safe way home for both them and their vehicle will be able to call the Tow to Go program to organize a confidential ride within 10 miles.

While people enjoying the long weekend are encouraged to plan ahead, it is intended to be a safety net for those in need of a safe way home.

From Friday, Aug. 31 until Tuesday, Sept. 4, drivers can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.

The program is open to members and non-members of AAA.

States included in the Tow to Go program are Georgia, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Indiana.
