Athens Road Runners Host Inaugural Milledge Mile Race

The Athens Road Runners are hosting a new race in town. The Milledge Mile kicks off tomorrow morning at 7:30. The mile-long race is for runners of all ability levels. Group president Greg Waddell says he race will be conducted in five timed heats.

“Some of the Mile that you see are in town where it becomes a really epic event, and we’re going to have various heats, so it’s not where it’s a race where all thousand runners at some point may be in that one race, Waddell said. “we’re going to heave heats. So you will be racing against people that are of your same performance level. And it’s going to be down Milledge Avenue, it’s just the street.”

Sara Freeland is secretary of Athens Road Runners. She says everyone is welcome.

“It’s also a really approachable distance, so if you’re a hardcore runner, you can post a really fast time or maybe you’re just getting into fitness and want to see if you can run a mile without walking. I really like that there’s something for everybody, for all fitness levels. So we really want everyone to come out and see how fast they can run the Milledge Mile.”.

Runners can still register the day of the race before 7 am.
