Emerson String Quartet Coming to UGA

Lisa Marie Mazzucco

The University of Georgia's Performing Arts Center is presenting the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Monday, October 22nd. Phillip Setzer a violinist with the renown Emerson String Quartet.

“I think anybody that’s ever been to any kind of live event, whether it be a Jazz concert, a rock concert, or a football game or whatever, will tell you that there’s something about being in the audience with other people enjoying something that you can’t compare to listening to something on the radio, no offense to you of course, or a to recording,” according to Setzer.

Setzer is a founding member of the ensemble, which has been performing for 42 years.

The quartet will be joined by Shai Wosner on piano while in Athens.

“I’ve never been to Athens before, I hear wonderful things about the [Chamber Music] series,” Wosner said. “For me it will be a first time, so I’m always excited to meet new audiences and new venues and new and new pianos. As a pianist, you always find different instruments everywhere you go, you don’t get to travel with your own instrument. For me it’s a very new experience and I’m very much looking forward to it and least of course, playing the quartet again, which is really thrilling.”

The artists are presenting the same performance at Lincoln Center the night before their performance in Athens. That performance begins at 7:30 at the Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall. It is free and open to the public.
