Tenneco to Close Hartwell Plant, Eliminating 500 Jobs

Tenneco

A northeast Georgia manufacturing facility is shutting its doors in 2020, eliminating more than 500 jobs in the process.

Tenneco, a shock absorber manufacturer, says it is closing its plant in Hartwell. The company announced plans to restructure its North America ride control operations Friday.

Tenneco will begin transferring business to its facility in Kettering, Ohio later this year and the Hartwell plant is expected to close near the end of the second quarter of 2020.

The company is also closing it plant in Ontario, Canada.

According to the Tenneco website, the closures are expected to save between 20 and 25 million dollars a year.

The company estimates $70 to$80 million will be spent on restructuring and related charges. That number includes an estimated $40 to $50 million dollars on severance payments to employees, decommissioning and start up equipment, and costs associated with the move.
