The numbers are looking good for Northeast Georgia according to the state Department of Labor. Unemployment fell to percent in the 12-county region and the number of employed residents and labor force increased. Commissioner Mark Butler says all indicators were positive for the year.

“The jobs report is in for the Northeast Georgia region and when we take look behind the rate decrease, we see a lot of good news,” Butler said. “First of all, individuals are very encouraged by the job market as we saw almost 800 more individuals actually enter into the workforce to look for work and those individuals were very successful.”

Butler says nearly 7-thousand more people are working this year than the same time last year and fewer unemployment claims decreased.

“As we take a look at the monthly figures we saw a 14% decrease and also we’re showing a 23% decrease when you compare the amount of claims filed this September for unemployment compared to the same time last year.”

He says the news is positive on many fronts.
