Athens Activist/Muscian Tells Stories of Undocumented Immigrants on 'Undocorridos'

Beto Cacao

An Athens activist and musician hopes to draw attention to the plight of undocumented immigrants at an event this evening is Athens.

Beto Cacao is telling the stories of the undocumented on a new CD, “Undocurridos.” Caco wrote most of the songs himself. He says he wants to tell the stories of those who cannot do so themselves.

“I’m trying to preserve to stories, bring the voices of the people who have no voice and the stories that are common to our community in Athens and of the nation,” Cacao said. “So I’m trying got spotlight the immigration issue from the human perspective.”

Cacao says life has gotten more challenging for undocumented in the current political climate.

“They’ve been compared with criminals where they used to be workers, the people who clean our dishes, the people who grow our food, the people who clean our hotel rooms when we stay there, people who fix our garden. Then suddenly from the presidency, from the people in power saying these people are rapists, criminals, where the reality is they’re building our nation.”

Everyone is welcome to attend this evening’s event.

“The CD release party is at the Globe at 8 pm.”

The event at the Globe will also feature an altar to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
