Clarke County Voters Deciding Local Races

In addition to statewide races, Athens voters will also be selecting area representatives for the 9th District, choosing between incumbent Doug Collins and challenger Josh McCall,.

In the 10th District Democratic challenger Tabitha Johnson-Green is taking on incumbent Rep. Jody Hice.

In State Senate District 46 Republican incumbent Bill Cowsert is facing Democrat Marisue Hillard.

Iin district 47, Dawn Johnson is challenging Senator Frank Ginn.

In House District 117, incumbent Deborah Gonzalez is once again facing Republican Houston Gaines and in the 119th District, incumbent Jonathan Wallace is facing Republican Marcus Weidower for the second time.

118 representative Spencer Frye is unopposed.

Clarke county voters will also decide on a so-called brunch bill, to determine when alcohol by the drink can be sold on Sundays. It would allow restaurants to serve drinks at 11 am instead of waiting until 12:30 pm. The change would not affect sales of alcohol at retail stores, which would still have to wait until 12:30 pm.
