ACCPD Investigating Shooting Death, Aggravated Assault

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating the shooting death of an Athens man. Police responded to the scene on Oak Hill Drive around 8:40 Monday night. They found the victim, 31-year old Walter James Brown Jr. on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot sounds.  

An officer rendered first aid until EMS arrived. Police Brown was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact detective Scott Black at 706-613-3330, extension 798 or Scott.Black@accgov.com.

The department is also looking for information in an aggravated assault case.

According to a media release, police were sent to a Discharging Firearms call at a Martin Court residence. When they arrived they spoke to the 73-year old victim, who said shots were fired at her residence.

Officers found several bullet holes outside the home. Two bullets entered the living room and bedroom.

A 17-year old male was also inside the residence at the time of the shooting. No one was injured.
