Athens Student Arrested with Loaded Gun at Cedar Shoals High School

Athens Banner-Herald

A Clarke County student is in custody after taking a gun to school. ACC Police received a report from the Clarke County School District around 2 o’ clock Wednesday afternoon regarding a student with a weapon at Cedar Shoals High School. Geof Gilland is Public Information Aide with the ACCPD.

“We worked the Clarke County School District administration and our School Resource Officer located the 15-year old and apprehended him at the school,” according to Gilland. “He had a loaded firearm in his backpack so he was taken into custody.”

Investigators determined the weapon was stolen from a recent Entering Auto incident and also was used in two drive-by shooting incidents at a Martin Court residence.

“We’re very happy that we were able to work with the Clarke County School District and our School Resource Officer was there and they resolved this issue quickly.  We are very happy we recovered the gun, the stolen weapon, and we’re also glad it was all done quickly and all of this without any injury to anybody.”

Bullets were fired into that Martin Court residence, but no one was injured.

The juvenile was charged with Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds and with Aggravated Assault. He was taken to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.
