Athens-Oconee CASA Holding Volunteer Orientation

Athens-area residents are invited to attend an information session Tuesday evening with Athens-Oconee CASA.

CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates, is holding volunteer orientations. The sessions are a simply a way to provide information to those who might be interested in becoming local advocates for foster children.

Susie Weller is Executive Director of Children First.

“This is where people can come and learn about being a CASA volunteer,” Weller said. “Currently we are serving 170 children in the foster care system and we have over 300 kids in foster care. So we are actively looking for volunteers that are a good fit, that have an interest in children and representing these children who are in foster care.”

Weller says attendees do not have to make any commitments at the meeting.

This evening’s volunteer orientation is 5:30 at CASA, located at 693 North Pope Street in Athens.

The 2019 Spring CASA Class begins February 7th.
