2018 Job Count Hits Record-High in Georgia

Georgia’s total number of jobs for 2018 hit 4.6 million—a record-high for the state. Throughout the year, just under 114,000 jobs were added, according to a Georgia Department of Labor press release.

Athens had a 3.9 percent increase in job growth, gaining 3,900 jobs since 2017. However, there were 31 more unemployment insurance claims in 2018 than in 2017, with 354 claims total.

The year ended with an unemployment rate in Georgia of 3.6 percent which is down from 4.5 percent in 2017. Unemployment insurance claims throughout the state dropped 4 percent from 2017 with 310, 484 claims filed in 2018.

Sectors that saw the most growth were trade, transportation, utilities at 28,600; professional/business services at 24,700; construction at 21,500; education, health services at 15,600; and leisure, hospitality at 13,300.
