Upcoming MLK Jr. Memorial Events


Martin Luther King Jr. memorial events for 2019 kick off with the University of Georgia’s 16th Annual Freedom Breakfast Friday at 8 a.m. at the Tate Student Center.

This year's speech will be delivered by Tiffany Cochran-Edwards, a former Atlanta news anchor who is currently the national brand manager for The Cochran Firm. The winners of the Fulfilling the Dream Award will be announced.

The 12th annual "Visions of MLK Art Exhibition and Saturday Celebration" will be held at the Lyndon House Arts Center on Jan. 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

An Ecumenical Service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. 

The 4th Annual Athens in Harmony fundraiser for the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement will be on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Foundry.

The MLK Day of Service Kick-Off Celebration at Cedar Shoals High School will be on Monday at 8:30 a.m., and the Day of Service Celebration will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Broad Farmers Market on 1573 W. Broad St.

The 3rd Annual MLK Jr. Day parade and festival will be on Monday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Athens.
