Board of Education Seeks District Two Replacement after Vernon Payne Resigns

Clarke County School District

The Clarke County School District Board of Education is looking to fill a vacancy after the seat holder in district two resigned, according to a CCSD press release.

Vernon Payne announced his resignation at the Jan. 10 meeting, after serving on the board for more than 40 years.

The board is seeking to find someone to complete Payne's term, which will end on Dec. 31, 2020.

Residents in district two who qualify to be a board member should send a letter of interest, biographical sketch signed by the applicant and up to two signed letters of support to Board President Jared Bybee at 440-1 Dearing Extension, Athens, Georgia 30606 by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Each applicant will be asked to give a three-minute presentation at the meeting on Feb. 21, where they will discuss why they are interested in serving on the board, what they think the main priorities of the board are and what skills they will bring to the position.

Those wishing to show support for applicants may fill out a comment form on the district website.
