CEO of Piedmonth Athens to Depart, Rejoin Navigant

Piedmont Healthcare

CEO of Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center will depart and rejoin Navigant, where he previously served as managing director, after serving as CEO at Piedmonth Athens for four years, according to a press release from the hospital.

During his time at Piedmont Athens, Charles Peck, M.D. established the hospital as the east clinical hub for Piedmont Healthcare, and helped the hospital earn the 2018 Top Teaching Hospital by the Leapfrog Group.

Peck will begin working at Navigant on March 1, and will serve as the interim CEO for Piedmont Athens until May 31.

“While Chuck was a part of Piedmont for a relatively short time, it would be hard to overstate his impact at Piedmont Athens and our system,” Piedmont Healthcare CEO Kevin Brown said in the press release. “When he joined, the independent Athens Regional Health System was dealing with significant operational, financial and employee engagement challenges. In a short period of time, Chuck’s leadership helped stabilize the system and point it in the right direction.”

Toward the end of his time at the hospital, Peck launched a $171 million expansion and renovation project which will renovate 260,000 square feet of existing space, and 229,000 square feet will be replaced. He also helped to grow patient volumes dramatically, opening a state-of-the-art ambulatory campus, and growing Piedmont’s successful partnership with the University of Georgia.

“Chuck has done an outstanding job not only helping Piedmont Athens overcome industry pressures and challenges but also driving significant performance improvements,” said Alex Hunter, managing director and a leader in the healthcare practice, in the press release. “We are very excited to have him rejoin the Navigant team as we continue to serve hospitals and health systems in the Southeast, and beyond.”

Piedmont has begun an internal and external search for Dr. Peck’s permanent replacement.
