Athens Library to Host Holi Indian Cultural Celebration

Athens Regional Library

The Athens Library is partnering with the Indian Association of Greater Athens this weekend.

The library is hosting its first annual Holi Indian Cultural Celebration Saturday. Rhiannon Eades says it’s a way for community members to get to know their Indian neighbors in the Classic City, while enjoying Indian food, dance, music and more.

“Holi is one of the most revered festivals in India,” Eades said. “It is something that celebrates Spring and renewal and the triumph of good over evil. It’s a very colorful festival.”

Those attending should wear white clothing, but be mindful of the throwing of traditional colored powders.

“Along with the dance and the food and the music, we’re really excited to host an author. We’re hosting the New York Times bestselling author Surishtha Seghal. She’s written books such as A Bucket of Blessing, Wheels on the Tuk Tuk, Thread of Love.”

This free event is for children ages 3-11 and their caregiver.
