Project Safe Hosts 12th Annual Dancing with the Athens Stars

The 12th Annual Dancing with the Athens Stars gets underway this Saturday.

The yearly fundraiser for Project Safe allows the organization to provide a variety of services for victims of domestic violence.

Executive Director Joan Prittie said the event has netted $1.16 million dollars.

“Of course that number is only interesting because of what it has enabled us to do,” Prittie said. “It has fueled expansion in all sorts of ways, the biggest one being that we completely expanded our emergency shelter. We went from four bedrooms to ten, and counseling rooms, additional office space, additional program space that goes with that.”

The funds have also allowed Project Safe to hire more staff, offer transportation for clients, a summer camp for kids, and more.

You can purchase tickets at classiccenter.com, vote for teams by texting dancing2019 to 41444, or visit project-safe.org. Each vote costs one dollar.

“We’re matching people who are well-known or well-liked in their niche of Athens with dance instructors,” Prittie said.

The event is at the Classic CenterSaturday, April 6th at 7:30.

The primary service area is Clarke, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties, but the organization provides statewide assistance.
