ACC Mayor and Commission to Vote on Clean and Renewable Energy Resolution

Athens-Clarke Mayor and Commission are expected to vote on a resolution to adopt 100% clean and renewable energy this evening. County leaders passed a resolution calling for the increased use of renewable energy by the county government in April of 2016.

In February of this year, Mayor Girtz signed onto the Sierra Club’s Mayors for 100% Clean Energy Initiative. On April 2nd, the Mayor and Commission adopted the FY20 Strategic Commitments and Goals. That measure included to goal of 100% clean and renewable energy by 2035, with development and implantation of strategies to do so by April 2020.

The Sustainability Office with partners from 100% Athens, the Georgia Climate Change Coalition, Environment Georgia and Athens for Everyone to establish specific goals for the ACC government.

SPLOST 2020 contains three projects related to the goal.
