WUGA and ACC Library Host First Meeting of Mueller Series

Gemma DiCarlo

Area residents interested in an impartial exploration of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report turned out for the first of several discussions on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Over 50 people attended the event, which was held at the Athens-Clarke County Library. Shelby Steuart, a doctoral student in UGA’s School of Public and International Affairs, moderated the discussion, which focused on the first third of volume one of the report. Elizabeth Alder was one of the attendees.

“It’s what happened in your country. And if you’re at all interested in where you live, which is, right now, we all live in the U.S., then we need to know what happened,” Alder said. “Whether we agree with what happened or don’t agree with what happened, it’s important to be informed.”

Alder said that the group dynamic adds to her understanding of Mueller’s findings.

“I came here to get answers, and I think it’s great that over 50 people have come here and have different opinions and different questions that I would not have thought of,” Alder said.

Sunday’s event was the first of six discussions of the Mueller Report co-hosted by the ACC Library and WUGA to help citizens come to their own conclusions about the historic document.

“I think that the interest in the Mueller Report is growing day by day, and I think it is uncovering a piece of the iceberg that is hidden from the general public,” said attendee Jack Schatz. “I think Robert Mueller put it out there for just this reason.”

After taking next Sunday off for Father’s Day, the series will resume on June 23 at the library. Participants can join the series at any time and are strongly encouraged to read the designated section of the report before attending.

Copies of the report are available at the library and at local bookstores. For a complete schedule of meetings and the sections of the report covered, visit WUGA’s Facebook page.
