It’s the first day on the job for the University of Georgia’s new Provost. S. Jack Hu began work today as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. In a message to the university community, Hu noted the university’s commitment to experiential learning, as well as its graduate and professional programs and research initiatives:
We have the privilege of shaping the lives of young people through the instruction we provide in our classrooms, studios, and laboratories. Through experiential learning, our students apply and build upon this knowledge while enriching their educational experience, as well as their opportunities for the future. Our graduate and professional degree programs combine depth of learning and, in many cases, interdisciplinary breadth to keep our state and nation at the leading edge of discovery and innovation.
Hu comes to the university from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he taught in the College of Engineering, and served as both Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education in the College of Engineering. As Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Hu serves as the chief academic officer for the university.
Hu will not be the only new face in the provost’s office. Two finalists, one from the Terry College of Business, and one from the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences have been announced for the position of vice-provost for academic affairs.
