AADM Hosting Women's Empowerment Brunch

Women in the Athens area from all walks of life are invited to a gathering sponsored by the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement this weekend. The organization is hosting a Women’s Empowerment Brunch: Breaking Racial Barriers and Activism.

“We want any woman that’s interested in growing in the area if connecting with someone that might not come from their background or came from the same walk as them, this is created to be a safe space,” according to AADM President and Co-founder Mokah Jasmine Johnson.

Johnson says it’s meant to be a welcoming environment for those attending.

“If you’re tired of all the racial barriers, you’re tired of all the unnecessary division and you’re looking for a way to connect with people that might come from a different background, different race, different culture from you, gain some understanding, ask some serious questions; this is the event for you.”

She says the brunch is open to everyone.

“We have food that’s going to be catered by Rashe’s and it’s free. We’re not charging the women to come and enjoy the atmosphere. The funds the people donated and help support us [means] we’re able to do events like this. We don’t have to charge and income doesn’t have to be a barrier, whether or not you afford to come and try to gain something from it.”

The event is Sunday, July 14th at 2 pm at 251 West Washington Street.
