Annual Amplify Athens Fundraising Concert at the Foundry
The annual Amplify Athens concert series takes place this weekend at the Foundry. The two-day concert features a performance by Grammy award-nominated singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins. Athens native, musician and executive Mike Killeen founded Amplify. It’s part of the Amplify my Community nonprofit, which raises money for other agencies.
“Amplify my Community is an organization that leverages the universal love of music to fight homelessness and poverty at the local level,” Killeen said. “The way we do that is by throwing music shows, concerts, events and festivals, bringing people together to celebrate music and we raise money for community-based organizations that are helping the underserved and most vulnerable at the local level.”
Amplify supports nonprofits throughout the Southeast. Since 2011, the organization has raised more than $350,000. The proceeds from the event benefit Family Connection-Communities in Schools Athens.
“Tangibly, what that looks like is we put on a concert, we bring sponsors from the local community and then we give all the money that we raise, 100% of what we raise, to a local charity in that community. So the money all stays local.”
Killeen will open for Mullins on Saturday night at Foundry. Dylan LeBlanc and Jim White perform Friday night. Shows start at 8 pm at the Foundry both nights.
