Athens has been named one of the 20 best college towns to buy an investment property. That’s according to a recent report by Redfin.com.
The report cites high demand for rental properties among students and BnB-type residences for visitors.
Redfin ranked towns across the country by factors including: affordability, walking distance amenities, and the level of high-quality education relative to low tuition and fees.
Athens came in at number 5 on the list, with a U.S. News and World Report Ranking of 46 and a Walk Score of 46. Athens was just behind rival University of Florida’s hometown of Gainesville at number 4.
Binghamton, New York, home of the University of Binghamton-SUNY, was number one on the list.
Only the top 200 schools in the U.S. News and World Report National Universities Rankings were considered. In addition, the study only included locations with median home prices under $550,000.
