Athens Thunderstorms Cause Downed Trees, Flooding

Monday’s storms left trees down and flooded roads and parking lots in and around Athens.

Crews worked to clear downed trees and branches from several areas around the Classic City, including Atlanta Highway, Normaltown, and Beechwood.

In addition, Athenians shared images of flooded parking lots on social media; as well as hail reported in the Timothy Road area.

Portions of North and Central Georgia are under a hazardous weather outlook this afternoon though tonight.

The National Weather Service, scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected across much of the area.

Forecasters warn gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall are possible. Forecasters say similar conditions are expected through Monday.

There is currently a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
