Concerned Citizens Aid ACCPD in Entering Auto Arrests

ACCPD

In the early morning hours of August 23, 2019, concerned residents reported multiple Entering Auto incidents which led to arrests.

In the first incident, at approximately 12:48am, ACCPD responded to 2360 West Broad St. (University Oaks), where a witness indicated that a white male was in the apartment’s parking lot pulling on vehicle door handles. The witness directed officers to an area where the suspect was last seen. The suspect, identified as Joseph Kelly, 24 years-old from Jefferson, Georgia, was arrested and charged with three counts of Entering Auto and one count of Loitering and Prowling.

In the second incident, at approximately 1:23am, ACCPD responded to 1035 S. Barnett Shoals Rd. (Summit Apartments), where a caller advised that four males were seen pulling on vehicle door handles. After searching the area, officers made contact with two suspects who matched the caller’s description. After a short chase, officers apprehended the suspects, one juvenile and one adult. The other two suspects were not located. The juvenile, a 15-year old male, was detained by Department of Juvenile Justice and the adult, Quartez Clarke, 19-years- old from Athens, was transported to the Athens-Clarke County Jail. Clarke was charged with Entering Auto and Loitering and Prowling. Clarke is currently on Felony Probation for offenses related to Entering Auto and Possession of Firearms.

ACCPD reminds residents to remove all valuables from their vehicles, especially weapons, during the overnight hours. ACCPD encourages citizens to remain alert and call 9-1-1 if they see criminal or suspicious activity.
